Story Of
Terry Fox Run
Terry Fox was
a young Canadian diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma( Bone Cancer)
in his right leg in 1977. His leg was amputed six inches above
his knee. During his time in the hospital he was overcome by
the suffering he saw around him. He started his journey called
"The Marathon of Hope" in 1980 with a simple objective
of raising the awareness among canadians of the critical need
to support cure for Cancer.His right leg was a mere stump, which
he lost at the age of 18 due to Cancer. His Fierce determination
resulted in his running an average of 42 kilometers everyday
for 143 days.
Since 1997 a
run is organised every year by the Terry Fox Foundation in India
to Creat awereness and generate funds for the cause. For the
last nine years, these funds have been given to Tata Memiorial
Hospital for Research studies.
This year the
run was organised on 01.02.2009. The run was started at 08.00
a.m. from Air - India Building (Nariman Point) to marine Drive
Flyover & back to Brabourne Stadium.
